The last few weeks of internal growth without comments on my socials has been a reflective time for me. Initially I thought it would last longer, and my addiction to praise was so strong that it wasn’t healthy for me to leave them on. I’ve arrived at a conclusion (which I will pay attention to and change in future if need be) that having comments off is hurting my business.
I was thinking about Graham Hoete a.k.a. Mr G and his presence online as an artist and I admire his consistency to post things that represent him and that he proudly represents, and how he engages with his audience. The prominence that he has risen to isn’t merely because of his creativity, but because of other things like his consistency and interactions with people out in the world.
I looked at myself and thought about how I’m broke and that adhering to some of the principles and processes that Mr G follows could help get me closer to where I’d like to be.
This idea was further reinforced by a video I saw of Alex Hormozi on Instagram about how having a public persona has helped elevate his potential as a businessman.
With all that being said, I’m switching comments on again, but this time I’m looking at it a bit differently than before. I still get an ego boost when I hear nice things, but I’m going to put more effort into sharing more and engaging with my audience. I say ‘put more effort in’ instead of ‘try my best’ because I’d be lying if I said so. I’m not at the point where I can confidently say ‘I’ll try my best’ and keep my word.
